Well we hate to jump the gun and jinx ourselves again, but Addison really came around the corner yesterday. After such a tough weekend, she really came out strong.
She woke up in the morning fighting so strong, they had taken her off all of the blood pressure medications that she had required on the weekend. She lost about half of her weight (not literally) peeing out all the fluids she had had pumped into her wee little body over two days. Her blood gases were great and she was managing her pain very well. The nurses called her the "feisty one". She was feeling so good that she kept going gagging on her oxygen, because she was trying to take so many breaths on her own over the machine. She was swallowing so much air she was going brachiacardic on the nurses on her oxygen and filling her little belly with air. As a result they took her off the Oscillating ventilator that was giving her 900 breaths a minute to the conventional respirator which forces air into her lungs and then forces her take more breaths on her own. The surgery has really helped by closing that valve and letting her little heart and lungs get back to work at what they are supposed to be doing. What a step Addison, we are so proud of you!!!
work on her, she was moving like crazy and
getting her little toes and fingers caught in all her wires. They really wanted her to settle down so that she would not cause more pain or damage to her incision so she got wrapped up like a little burrito and was snug as a bug in her incubator. She was so cute, take a look!!!
So now we try to work on building her up some weight and get her digestive system working on track so that we can at all costs avoid an infection/sepsis of the bowel. She started back on breastmilk feeds and was doing well yesterday. She was digesting up to 1 CC every 2 hours and she even had a poop. Who ever thought parents would be so excited about a baby pooping, but honestly you become obsessed with the strangest things when your little one is in the NICU. Dad was the lucky one to get his hands dirty for this one!! You are our little "Wondergirl" Addison, keep up the good fight!!
Maxima debetur puero reverentia. We owe the greatest respect to a child
